Joining Hands to Embark on a New Journey in Nutrition and Health | Inauguration of the South China Agricultural University — Guiwei Biotechnology Nutrition and Health Research Institute

On the morning of December 23, 2024, the inauguration ceremony of the South China Agricultural University (SCAU)–Guiwei Nutrition and Health Research Institute was grandly held in the first-floor hall of the SCAU College of Food Science.  Zhou Yanhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of SCAU College of Food Science;  Han Yongjun, Chairman of Hunan Guiwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd.;  Professor Cao Yong, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Active Substance and Functionality Research in Health Foods;  and Han Shaoqin, Sales Manager of Hunan Guiwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd., jointly unveiled the institute.  The ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Song Mingyue, Vice Chairman of the SCAU College of Food Science Labor Union.

University's Message: Innovation Leads the Way, Integrating Industry-Academia-Research for New Breakthroughs  

Secretary Zhou Yanhua extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the institute.  She emphasized that the institute holds significant strategic importance in driving scientific innovation, accelerating technology transfer and commercialization, and fostering deeper integration of technical development with industrial production.  This initiative not only marks a critical step in advancing the "industry-academia-research" integration model but also aims to cultivate specialized talent in food nutrition, health, and functional food development.  In recent years, the college has focused on food technology innovation, seized opportunities in the health industry, and strengthened research platforms, earning widespread recognition.  The newly established institute will provide enterprises with robust research support and contribute to the growth of the "Healthy China 2030" strategy.

As the enterprise representative, Chairman Han Yongjun congratulated the institute’s establishment, highlighting that 2024 is a pivotal year for Guiwei Biotechnology to elevate its technical capabilities, expand R&D, and advance into international markets.  He noted the longstanding collaboration between Guiwei and SCAU’s research teams, which has yielded breakthroughs in product development and innovation.  He expressed honor in co-establishing the institute with SCAU and confidence in achieving global excellence under the leadership of Secretary Zhou and Professor Cao’s team.

Scientific Collaboration: Complementary Strengths, Building the Future of the Health Industry  

Professor Cao Yong congratulated the institute’s launch and thanked Guiwei Biotechnology for its trust.  He reviewed the collaborative history with Guiwei, praising its outstanding achievements in functional product research and technological innovation.  As a key hub for functional food R&D in Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory boasts strong human resources and application-oriented expertise.  The institute will address Guiwei’s technical and industrial challenges, develop high-quality and safe nutrient-rich products, and propel the health industry forward.  He expressed confidence that the institute will make substantial contributions to enterprises, academia, and society, and urged Guiwei to continue innovating and deepening market engagement to support "Healthy China 2030".
